National referendum

In October 2012, the National Parliament of the Republic of Bulgaria adopted a decision to hold a national referendum with the question: "Should nuclear energy be developed in the Republic of Bulgaria through the construction of a new nuclear power plant?".
By a decree of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria also from October 2012, the date of the referendum was set on January 27, 2013.
The decision to hold the referendum is a result of the collection of 543,639 valid signatures requesting a referendum on the question "Should nuclear energy be developed in Bulgaria through the construction of a nuclear power plant at the Belene site".
